Three Things I've Learned Since Starting Ambition HR

When I started Ambition HR three years ago, I had plenty of experience helping businesses navigate people challenges. What I didn't have was a crystal ball.

Like every entrepreneur, I've learned as I've gone. Some things have worked exactly as I'd hoped, others haven't, and a few have taken me in completely unexpected directions. Looking back, though, there are three lessons that stand out above all else.

1. It's OK to change direction

One of the biggest misconceptions about running a business is that you have to get everything right first time. The reality is that businesses evolve.

Over the past three years, I've refined our services, introduced new ideas, developed new resources and responded to what our clients actually need, not just what I thought they'd need when I first started.

Changing direction isn't a sign you've failed. It's a sign you're listening, learning and growing.

2. You'll be surprised who supports you

Starting a business can feel daunting, but one of the biggest surprises has been the encouragement I've received from clients, former colleagues, fellow business owners and people I've met along the way.

Some of the people who've become our biggest advocates weren't people I expected, while others have introduced us to opportunities that simply wouldn't have happened without their support.

It has reminded me that business isn't just about what you know; it's about the relationships you build and the trust you earn over time.

3. Never stop learning

The world of work doesn't stand still, and neither should we.

Whether it's changes in employment law, new research from the CIPD or evolving workplace trends, I'm always looking for ways to learn something new and bring that knowledge back to the businesses we support.

I don't believe anyone ever has all the answers. The best business owners stay curious, keep learning and aren't afraid to ask questions.

Three years in, I'm incredibly proud of how far Ambition HR has come… and even more excited about where we're heading next.

To everyone who has supported us along the way, whether you've been a client, a collaborator, a connection or a cheerleader, thank you. Your encouragement has played a part in our journey, and I can't wait to see what the next chapter brings.
